Steps to Reverse an MTN MoMo Transaction

1. Act Fast – Time is Critical

The sooner you report the error, the better your chances of a successful reversal. Don’t wait.

2. Dial MTN Customer Care: 100 or Use *165#

Option 1: Call MTN

  • Dial 100 from your MTN line

  • Choose MoMo issues, then Reversal Request

  • Provide details of the wrong transaction (amount, date, and the recipient’s number)

Option 2: Use the MoMo Menu

  • Dial *165#

  • Select 8. My Account

  • Then choose 7. Reversal Request

  • Follow the prompts and enter the wrong number and transaction amount

3. Alternatively: Use the MyMTN App

If you have the MyMTN app:

  • Go to the Mobile Money section

  • Find Transaction History

  • Tap the specific transaction

  • Look for “Request Reversal” or “Report Issue”

4. Provide Full Details

You’ll be asked for:

  • The number you mistakenly sent money to

  • The exact amount

  • Date & time of the transaction

  • Your full name and number

💡 Tip: Take a screenshot or write down the transaction ID from the SMS confirmation message

5. Wait for MTN to Investigate

After your request:

  • MTN will contact the recipient to confirm the money was wrongly sent

  • If the recipient hasn’t withdrawn or used the money, MTN will reverse it to your account

  • This can take a few hours up to 3 business days
